Chapter 334 Outsiders
Chapter 334 Outsiders
Han Che and Qi Yuzhe chatted until dawn before taking a short break.
Qi Yuzhe went back to his solitary cell to sleep, while the warden simply lay down on the sofa in his office to rest.
This day involved a fierce battle with fewer players than others, attended a highly influential meeting, and just had an information-rich conversation with Qi Yuzhe.
His body and mind were exhausted, but the thought that there were other people in the world just like him made Han Che feel inexplicably at ease.
It's like attending a party where you don't know anyone there, and you can find new friends, but you still feel a bit reserved. That feeling of reservation disappears instantly when you spot an acquaintance in the crowd.
When I opened my eyes again, it was already quite bright outside the office window.
Han Che stared at the sunlight streaming in through the window, feeling that he hadn't slept so soundly in a long time since he came into this world.
When Han Che sat up from the sofa, he felt a little sore in his back. He had slept with his neck and shoulders stretched out from sleeping in a crooked position all night.
He raised his arms and moved them a couple of times, his shoulder joints cracking twice, then stood up and straightened his black combat trench coat.
Several wrinkles appeared on the front of his clothes. He tried to smooth them out with his palm but couldn't, so he gave up on it.
As soon as I stepped outside, I saw that Shi Ding had changed into his usual gear and was standing by the wall next to the office door, with his back against the wall and his shield at his feet.
He heard the door open, turned his head, and immediately stood up straight. "Your Excellency, Warden, you're awake."
"Good morning, Shi Ding." Han Che looked at him. "Why are you guarding here? Is there something you need me for?"
"No." Shi Ding's answer was short, and after a pause, he added, "I saw you were resting and knew you were tired, so I stayed here to keep watch so that no one would disturb you."
"Hmm?" Han Che looked at him with some surprise.
Shi Ding would sometimes wait for him at the office door early in the morning, but that was usually when he came to report on work or ask for instructions.
This is the first time he's heard this way, and he's trying to figure out how to respond.
Out of the corner of my eye, I saw a figure in prison clothes squatting against the wall at the corner of the corridor, with his hands on his knees and his head hanging down, as if he was drawing something on the ground.
The figure looked up when it heard the sound and its gaze met Han Che's.
Hearing Han Che and Shi Ding talking, Qi Yuzhe looked up and met Han Che's gaze.
Qi Yuzhe jumped to his feet and rushed to the office door. "You're finally awake! At your age, still lying in bed? The sun's already high in the sky!"
Han Che narrowed his eyes: "How can you say you're so old? I'm only a few years older than you. I graduated, not retired..."
Halfway through his sentence, Qi Yuzhe suddenly rushed over and covered Han Che's mouth with one hand.
Han Che was stunned by his sudden action, his eyes widening as he stared at Qi Yuzhe's face, which was so close to his own, his facial muscles working frantically.
Han Che turned his head to look in the direction of his gaze. Shi Ding was standing a few steps away, watching the two of them with no expression on his face.
The two people stopped talking at the same time, and an awkward silence fell at the office doorway.
Shi Ding seemed to have also understood the change between the warden and Raven. "Your Excellency Warden, I will take my leave now. Please call me if you need anything."
After saying this, he saluted and left the office.
Qi Yuzhe grabbed Han Che's sleeve and pulled him back into the office, the door closing behind them.
Qi Yuzhe pressed his ear against the door for a few seconds, and only turned back after confirming that there was no other movement in the corridor.
"Watch your mouth," Qi Yuzhe said in a low voice, "Don't let anything slip. Don't blurt things out in front of outsiders in the future."
Han Che could tell that he wasn't the only one who felt at ease; Qi Yuzhe clearly felt the same way.
"It can't be that bad, that's Shi Ding, the person I trust the most." Han Che's expression was somewhat complicated. He felt a little uncomfortable looking at Shi Ding's back just now.
Qi Yuzhe glanced at him: "I know! But he's still an NPC, and I'm not asking you to do anything to wrong him."
"Let's not mention this identity to outsiders; knowing too much won't do him any good."
"If Shi Ding knew that the warden wasn't one of Hafk's people at all, but a transmigrator from another place, what would he think? How would he view his own existence? Sometimes it's better not to know certain things."
Han Che pondered for a moment, and felt that Qi Yuzhe's words made sense. He sighed softly and nodded in agreement.
"I resurrected your people last night. How's it going? Have you gone to see them?" Han Che asked, changing the subject.
"I went to check this morning, and those resurrected prison guards and prisoners were all in the same room."
"When I arrived, I happened to run into Shi Lei, who was there with them. He was getting them water and handing them things, and they seemed to be in good condition."
Han Che nodded. "Yes, I always ask them to do that. After they are resurrected, they need to stay together to calm their emotions and treat them well."
"So thoughtful?" Qi Yuzhe was taken aback, not expecting that it was Han Che who arranged it.
"Both of us have been resurrected. When we first woke up, the sense of helplessness and alienation was quite strong. It would have been much better if there were people we could trust around us," Han Che said in a deep voice.
Listening to Han Che's words, and seeing his serious expression, Qi Yuzhe couldn't help but feel that he really looked like a stern elder.
"The prisoners have been manually revived recently. Have you noticed any changes?" Han Che continued to ask.
"Yeah, the changes are quite obvious." Qi Yuzhe recalled, "Those people who used to automatically revive had unfocused eyes when they first woke up, like robots that hadn't saved their progress."
"Those who are manually revived can remember everything."
A smile appeared on Han Che's face, a smile that seemed somewhat forced. "This is the key to becoming stronger. Before long, the coordination of your hammer-wielding squads will be on par with my personal guard."
Qi Yuzhe looked at the unfamiliar smile on his face and felt that the smile, combined with Han Che's current warden-like serious face, was a bit sinister.
"How did you come up with the idea of spending money to revive NPCs? If you asked me, I'd probably just spend the money on equipment or something, since they can revive themselves anyway."
Han Che was silent for a moment, "When I first transmigrated, I didn't have enough money to revive myself. At that time, I only had one life."
"So I would hide at the back of the line and let the prison guards go first, while I would look for an opportunity to fire."
"With just one order, they will serve as my pawns, and with just a small sum of money, my loyal brothers can be brought back to life. I have no reason to refuse."
"No wonder your prison guards are so united..." Qi Yuzhe praised softly.
Han Che looked up, a hint of self-deprecation in his voice: "But saving money this way is incredibly slow. Every time I revive someone, it costs a fortune, leaving me with pitifully little money, so I've never had the funds to equip the brothers with better gear."
